Best Shopping Spots In The Treasure Valley

Writer: Ed ElamEd Elam

Whether you’re shopping for a holiday gift or a birthday present for a friend or relative or you just want to spend a Saturday afternoon drifting around different stores with a warm coffee in your hand while escaping the 24/7 news cycle, Idaho has some excellent options. Idaho may seem like flyover country to a lot of big city folk, but what they don’t know is that we have one of the strongest local business and small business supporters in the world. The Treasure Valley in general and the Boise Metro Area in specific has some world class boutique shopping centers all surrounded by casual dining and fine dining options that would give any coastal city a run for its money.

The Village At Meridian

This area was custom built from the ground up to be a boutique shopper’s dream. It offers dozens of individual boutique style stores with beautiful scenery, family friendly events, and dining options that will satisfy the whole crowd. There is a movie theater as well as an arcade, which makes it great for date night or birthday parties. The great thing about shopping here is that you get access to a lot of stores that you wouldn’t normally see in Idaho, even in downtown Boise. This is a great place to shop for unique or specialty items.

The Boise Towne Square Mall

Malls may not be as popular in America as they once were in their heyday back in the 80’s and 90’s, but The Boise Towne Square Mall has a few advantages that help to keep it up and running. First, it is fairly large, housing dozens of stores and eateries, but it isn’t so large as to be unsustainable. It strikes a great balance between having a good variety of shopping, entertainment, and amenities, without crossing into urban sprawl territory. Secondly, it doesn’t have a lot of competition. There just aren’t more than a handful of malls within a hundred square miles that it has to compete with, so it can stay at the top of the food chain relatively comfortably.

Downtown Boise

Of course, what else is a big city good for if not its offerings of various shops, diners, and coffee shops. While built on a grid system that makes driving through the city relatively easy, Boise’s downtown is very walkable and offers many small businesses and hidden gems that you just can’t find anywhere else. Parking is actually pretty inexpensive compared to other big cities and there are even spaces you can snag for free, if you’re lucky enough. If you want to support small businesses and have just about everything that a typically “big city” offers, then Boise is the place to shop.

In Conclusion

We hope that today’s Treasure Valley shopping guide was useful to you. Remember, no matter the time of year, there is always something fun to do around Boise and Meridian.
