The fall is such a great time of year! You get some much needed relief from the onslaught of hot temperatures that the summer brings and you get some of the best views of Idaho’s natural beauty all year when the leaves change color. Boise is the city of trees after all and when the colors change in the fall each year, it is truly a sight to behold. In today’s article, we’re going to go observe some of our favorite places to observe the fall foliage with friends and family and maybe a hot cup of cocoa or cider.
Bogus Basin
Not just for skiing! If you make the trek up the road, then you will be rewarded with some of the best leaf peeping views all around. The hiking trails that are open spring through fall are perfect for getting some exercise in while taking in iconic views of the fall leaves.
Idaho City
A much easier drive than to the top of Bogus, Idaho City offers postcard quality views right in our own backyard. Since Idaho City is in the middle of the Boise National Forest, you will get some of the best sights around. Don’t forget to stop for dinner while you’re there! There are some excellent restaurants in town.
The Greenbelt
The Greenbelt offers a unique view of the trees as well. You can see them right up close as you walk or jog under them. The many cottonwoods, willows, and maples that dot the trail are beautiful this time of year.
Table Rock Hiking Trails
A great chance to get in some outdoor exercise, the Table Rock hiking trail offers panoramic views of Boise and her many trees, including the foothills nearby. It’s worth the trek! You can even bring some picnic lunches or cider to enjoy with the view.
The Idaho Botanical Gardens
It’s always fun to go to The Idaho Botanical Gardens, but during the fall, it is a must-see event. The leaves and other foliage are starting to turn gold and brown and come October, they have family friendly events every week! You don’t want to miss it this year.
Best Cider Destinations
While you’re out and about finding the best places to witness the fall leaves, you will want to take along your trusty companion: delicious hot cider! We recommend the Meriwether Cider House in downtown Boise. They have both warm and cold cider options and a ton of creative and stunning flavors to choose from. If you’re in the Meridian area, we also recommend the Good Apple Taphouse for their cider offerings. They focus on naturally sourced local foods and beverages and will have you stocked up with your new favorite cider flavors in no time.
