As summer begins to wrap up and thoughts of fall start to creep into the hearts and minds of the good people of Boise, we wanted to give summer the best send off it could possibly deserve. Naturally, we decided to do so by giving you the ultimate ice cream shop list of all the best cold, sweet treats that The City of Trees has to offer. What better way to send the summer off in style than by sampling many delectable and ice cold ice creams? Let’s get started, shall we?
The STIL
Locations: Downtown Boise, Lusk District, and more
Vibe: Trendy, artisan, locally focused
Must-Try: Mimosa Sorbet or Idaho Wilderness
The STIL (an acronym for “Sweetest Things in Life”) is one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to go for top of the line, handcrafted small batch ice cream and desserts. Imagine if you crossed the mind of an artisanal craft beer brewer with that of a savant level pastry chef. You’d pretty much get The STIL. If you enjoy lovingly crafted, thoughtfully prepared, and stunningly delicious cold treats, then this is the place to go.
Goody’s Soda Fountain
Location: Hyde Park, North End
Vibe: Nostalgic, family-friendly, retro charm
Must-Try: Handmade Waffle Cone with Huckleberry Ice Cream
There are many reasons to make the trek to Hyde Park, but chief among which should be to stop at Goody’s for a midday treat with the kids, or a sweet night cap after some local pizza or street tacos on your next date night. It has a charming vibe which sends one back to the 50’s era soda fountain trend but keeps things very contemporary when it comes to innovative flavors and hand crafted treats. While this blog is mainly about ice cream, one can’t skip over the superb selection of fudges and frozen bananas that Goody’s has on hand. There’s a little something there for everyone.
C4 Creamery
Location: The Village at Meridian
Vibe: Interactive, modern, rolled ice cream
Must-Try: Oreo Explosion or S’more Please
Now, on the other side of town, you have a place that couldn’t be further apart from Goody’s in terms of vibe, but is on equal if not better footing when it comes to delicious ice cream on tap. C4 Creamery will blow your mind when it comes to the start to finish experience of selecting and watching your ice cream dessert come to life. Thai-Style rolled ice cream is like nothing else around here and it is worth the trip for a little something different and fun that you just can’t get anywhere else in the valley.
Smallcakes Cupcakery & Creamery
Location: South Broadway Avenue
Vibe: Bright, bold, cupcake-meets-ice-cream fusion
Must-Try: Cupcake Sundae with Red Velvet
If you’re more of a cookies and cake person when it comes to dessert, don’t worry, we’ve got you. Smallcakes is at its core a fantastic boutique cupcake bakery that offers high quality fresh baked cupcakes and other sweets, but what sets them apart is that they also have a wide variety of ice cream treats that they have on offer that you can buy individually or combine with their cupcakes for a wild fusion treat.
In Conclusion
We hope that today’s ice cream shop end of summer bucket list guide was useful to you. Remember, no matter the time of year, there is always something fun to do around Boise and Meridian.
