New Outdoor Design Trends

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

The past few years have seen the face of home entertainment change. We are hosting more garden parties and backyard get-togethers than ever before, and it can be difficult to keep up with the latest and greatest trends. Don’t worry, we have put together some of our favorite emerging and exquisite trends that will have your jaw on the floor and your friends begging for their next invite. With the real estate market the way it is in the Treasure Valley these days, Ed Elam is happy to help you with your buying, selling, and everything in between! Feel free to set up an appointment with him today after enjoying the rest of the article.

Trend #1: Outdoor Movie Theaters

What used to be a rarity is now almost a staple of the up-to-date backyard of today. If you haven’t joined this trend yet, we highly recommend it as your friends and family will thank you when you do. First you will need an outdoor screen. This can be as simple or elaborate as you’d like, even projecting onto a white sheet that is attached to your backyard fence or side of your house will do. Then you will need a handy HD movie projector which can be found on Amazon or Best Buy for around $300 these days. Many of which can be paired with your phone so you can stream movies and tv shows right from the palm of your hand. Finally, you’ll want to get a decent set of Bluetooth speakers to round out the theater media experience. Those can also be found on Amazon or Best Buy, usually around $99.

In addition to the audio and visual aspects of a movie theater, don’t forget to deck your backyard out with all of the fun amenities of an actual movie theater, like a popcorn machine, snack bar, and comfy seating. Now it’s not just a party, it’s showtime! Pass the popcorn please!

Trend #2: Edible Gardens

Why choose form or function when you can have both? Edible gardens are all the rage these days and for good reason. They serve two excellent purposes: they keep your backyard looking elegant and inviting while also providing you and your house guests fresh, nutritious produce that is light years ahead of the grocery store offerings. Turn your backyard into a functional nutrition booster and money saving machine by planting healthy edible food rather than the traditional pretty flowers that die in a month and can’t be used for any other purpose. The first bite of homemade salsa straight from your own garden will have you questioning why we haven’t just done this all along!

Trend #3: Neutral Palettes And Clean Lines The outdoor design world is trending toward a new kind of structured simplicity and we are here for it! Minimalism is all the rage these days and for good reason. It is timeless, elegant, and helps to add a little class and Zen to even the humblest backyard spaces. Neutral palettes help to calm the nerves and blend in with the rest of the natural background. Let the plants in your edible garden be your pops of color, naturally!

In Conclusion

Ed Elam is happy to help with any questions about buying, selling, and beyond! Give him a call today, he’d love to hear from you.
